We are looking for a Lead Developer to join our Data Products and Platforms tribe. In this role, you will play a key part in our federated data organization where multiple scrum teams collaborate to deliver high-quality data solutions across the company. In this technical lead role, you will work closely with technology and solution architects, as well as business and technology stakeholders. You will guide cross-team technical development and ensure alignment across both modern cloud-based platforms and established data warehousing solutions. Currently we are working on one of the biggest data platform transformations in the Nordics.

The position can be based in either Helsinki or Oulu, depending on your preference. We combine on-site and remote work flexibly in our daily routines. In this role there are on average two office days per week.

What’s the role like?

As a Lead Developer in the Data Products and Platforms tribe, you are responsible for guiding the technical direction of our data solutions and supporting their continuous development and maintenance. You will work closely with other teams in our tribe which is a central player in a federated data development model with platform and development process and tooling responsibility. You will also play a key role in introducing and scaling the use of AI across the entire software development lifecycle.

 
Your work is a mix of technical specification, solution architecture and guiding developers, while also performing hands-on implementation work. You lead your teams’ technical development and maintenance work ensuring the practices meet the standards for software development. As a lead developer, your role is also to support, coach, and mentor developers in solving technical challenges. You are responsible for validating that each implementation meets the qualitative requirements, assessing the impacts of the requirements on the architecture and negotiating with various stakeholders when necessary.

 
Lead Developer also has a role in ensuring that the team’s work fits into the bigger picture at OP Pohjola. With the help of tech leads, solution architects and the platform team you make sure that this ecosystem serves the business by delivering the right data to the right consumer at the right time. Lead Developer is responsible for making sure that the developers in the team understand the architecture target picture and can work towards it. 

 
Our teams are made up of internal employees as well as locally based and offshore vendors. You coordinate and actively guide the work, which means using a suite of communication tools to stay connected and keep the teams working in the same direction. 

What are we looking for?

You have several years of experience in data solutions and their development, as well as an understanding of data integrations and data pipeline (ETL / ELT) development. This experience has been gained through recent hands-on development work. You have gained experience leading teams of developers and supporting their growth and development. You understand data architecture and know how to translate business problems and information needs into technical solutions without jeopardizing the usability of the data solutions. Basic understanding of data modeling is essential in your daily work.

Technology-wise, we have a wide range of technologies and tools in use, and we want you to lead the way in utilizing new technologies, including AI. We value experience with Databricks, dbt, Python, SQL, and Azure Data Platform, or comparable tools and technologies.

We use agile methods and AI in our daily work, so we hope that you are familiar with them, or you have an agile mindset! Your way of working is goal-oriented and analytical; you are good at prioritizing tasks and solution-oriented. Thanks to your communicational and cooperation skills, you have a way to motivate others to participate and create innovative solutions together! You communicate fluently in English and hopefully also in Finnish.
