Do you want to help shape the next major phase of OP Pohjola’s cloud journey and have a real say in the technical foundation behind our future services?
As a Lead Developer, you will be at the heart of modernizing business-critical infrastructure in Azure, tackling complex networking and capacity challenges, and driving technical direction in an environment where scalability, security, and reliability are critical. If you are motivated by meaningful technical challenges, visible ownership, and the chance to make a lasting impact in one of Finland’s most important technology organizations, this could be the role for you.
A few words about the job
This is a full-time, permanent role based in Helsinki. Like elsewhere at OP Pohjola, we work flexibly, combining office days with remote work in Finland.
At OP Pohjola, your work directly impacts the daily lives of millions of Finns. You won't just be maintaining systems; you will be building the secure, scalable Azure foundation for Finland's largest financial organization. The Lead Developer role combines hands-on development with architectural leadership, focusing on modernizing the platform using Azure-native services, strengthening data governance, and ensuring alignment with banking regulatory frameworks.
This position plays a central role in technical direction, developer coaching, collaboration with stakeholders, and building a reliable infrastructure foundation. The ideal candidate can balance pragmatic decision-making with long-term architectural thinking.
Key responsibilities in this role:
- Design and operate Azure-based and hybrid cloud network environments, ensuring capacity, scalability, and resilience.
- Ensure platform reliability and operational excellence across monitoring, logging, alerting, cost optimization, and incident management.
- Drive automation and DevOps practices using GitHub Actions, Terraform, Bicep, and related tooling.
- Implement strong network security practices and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, risk, and governance standards.
- Provide technical leadership through mentoring, roadmap planning, architectural guidance, and translating business requirements into actionable technical steps.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
What we expect from you?
We are looking for an experienced Lead Developer with a proven track record in:
- Extensive expertise in Azure cloud networking and capacity management, including virtual machines, capacity services, and hybrid (on-premises + Azure) environments.
- Hands-on experience migrating workloads from on-premises to Azure, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient transitions.
- Strong proficiency with modern DevOps and automation tools, including Terraform, Bicep, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Skilled in shaping technical direction and influencing long-term architecture, balancing practical execution with strategic planning.
- Fluent communication skills in English, as it is the primary working language for this role.
The following experience is considered a nice-to-have bonus:
- Strong platform engineering and Azure expertise, including deep knowledge of compute, storage, networking, databases, identity, and security services.
- Advanced understanding of networking protocols and security practices, including compliance frameworks such as GDPR and HIPAA.
- Extensive experience in capacity planning, resource optimization, and performance tuning across Azure environments and virtualization technologies.
- Proficiency with Azure operational and automation tools (e.g., Azure Site Recovery, Backup, Automation, Monitor, Application Insights) and scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python).
- Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-700, Solutions Architect Expert, Administrator Associate).
Finnish language skills: While not mandatory, the ability to communicate in Finnish (written and verbally) is considered a plus.
