Data Scientist, ESG

Are you interested by the chance to make a meaningful impact on our world's sustainability efforts? Join us at OP Group as a Data Scientist and get the chance to play a crucial role in shaping the foundation of our responsible and sustainable business. This role offers you a unique opportunity to directly contribute to shaping the future of OP's business and making a lasting difference.

What is this about?

As a Data Scientist, you will get to collaborate closely with OP's ESG data products and analytics. You will serve as a specialist in ESG analytics across different segments, collaborating with different ESG leads and experts from various teams around the OP Group. Your duties will include various key responsibilities, such as developing sustainability related regulatory reporting processes, including those related to annual sustainability reporting and regulation like ECB Pillar 3 and CSRD. Your quantitative analyses will guide decision-making on how OP will reach its sustainability targets. You will also be responsible for the development, definition, and optimization of analytical solutions.

Your primary focus will involve discovering innovative data sources and creating predictive models tailored to the current need. Your role also revolves around putting predictive analytics and machine learning solutions into action. You will help uncover the concrete benefits that come from using these advanced techniques. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring that our predictive models stay accurate and effective as time goes on.

A crucial part of your job will also be designing the actual data product itself. This means defining the model, figuring out how it calculates information, and deciding how users will interact with it. You won't be doing this alone either—you'll collaborate with different stakeholders to make this design a reality, contributing to the entire process of putting it into action.

This opportunity is available in Helsinki. Like the rest of OP, we work in a flexible manner, combining both office days and remote work.

What we hope from you:

We are seeking a skilled expert in the field of data science and related software development. You understand the details involved in bringing artificial intelligence products to life, including aspects such as data flows, models, databases, and interfaces. We also hope that you are familiar working with concepts such as statistical analysis and data pipelines.

In this role, we also value expertise in the following areas:

  • Fundamentals of statistical and mathematical modeling (such as machine learning and GLM)

  • Cloud service environments (e.g., Azure)

  • Databricks

  • Python

  • Experience with ESG is considered as a plus

In addition to these skills, we hope that you enjoy working with different people from various business functions and enjoy brainstorming solutions to support their goals. You are able communicate and present your ideas to the business clearly and comprehensibly. In this role we also appreciate self-motivated attitude, strong teamwork skills and taking initiative. We also expect strong communication skills in English and/or Finnish.

What we offer:

To help counterbalance work where you are expected to take a lot of responsibility, we seek to ensure employee wellbeing and to enable forward-looking work arrangements. We offer a stable working environment where you can contribute to our core values: responsibility, people first and succeeding together.

You will enjoy a wide range of staff benefits, including a personnel fund and special terms for employee banking, insurance and loan services. We offer comprehensive occupational health care, extensive medical treatment expenses insurance and a full-time group accident insurance policy. Furthermore, we invest in wellbeing at work by encouraging a good work-life balance, providing flexibility in your daily life, and offering lunch, sport and cultural benefits and opportunities for affordable holidays in OP timeshares.

We also encourage and help you to further develop yourself as a technical professional. We have the so called “70/20/10 rule” in use, which means you will use 70% of your time for your daily tasks, 20% to develop the way you do those tasks, and the last 10% is reserved for you to learn and try new things. You will also have our OP Software Academy at your disposal in case you are interested in learning new technologies or methodologies, or why not in honing your skills in your current stack.
